Fabric Speaker Tests
A few of my students and I got together for an outside session of fabric speaker making to test different materials and configurations:
Material: Thin coated wire
Configuration: Horizontal uncrossed
Outcome: Too much surface are to find a concentrated point
Material: Conductive Thread
Configuration: Radial – played with visibility to determine how the fabric would impact the vibration of the thread if it was covered.
Outcome: Solid sound, especially with larger magnets
Material: Wool roving and conductive stainless steel roving
Configuration: Spiral
Outcome: Very slight sound – on the heavy side, so would use thinner traces on a more compact felted surface.
